Growing up in Tell City, Indiana, Alex Rogier, a University of Southern Indiana (USI) alumnus, was shaped by a close-knit, hard-working family whose roots in skilled trades and manufacturing instilled both a strong work ethic and a natural curiosity about how things are built. Surrounded by individuals who took pride in their craft, he developed an early appreciation for the manufacturing industry—an interest that would eventually grow into a successful and fulfilling career.

When it came time to choose a college, USI stood out for its welcoming, mid-sized environment and the wide range of academic programs it offered. Like many students, Alex began his college journey still exploring his path, but the flexibility and support at USI allowed him to discover where his interests and strengths aligned. That journey would prove transformational, not only academically but professionally.

A defining moment came in 1998 when USI connected him with a cooperative education (co-op) opportunity at Toyota Indiana. This hands-on experience allowed Alex to apply what he was learning in the classroom to real-world challenges, building both technical knowledge and confidence. More importantly, it opened the door to a long-term career. Upon graduating in 2001, he accepted a full-time position with Toyota—an opportunity that has kept him rooted in the Evansville area ever since.

Alex began his career as a Quality Engineer, focusing on part quality development for new vehicle projects. Over the next decade, he developed deep expertise while contributing to numerous launches. His strong performance and leadership potential led to a promotion to Quality Engineering Manager in 2011, where he spent nearly ten years guiding teams dedicated to improving vehicle quality, warranty performance, and customer satisfaction. In 2021, he advanced to Senior Manager, taking on broader responsibilities in both new vehicle development and ongoing production quality improvement.

Reflecting on his time at USI, Alex credits the university with helping him build independence while also emphasizing the value of collaboration—skills that have proven essential throughout his career. Today, he finds the most fulfillment in solving complex problems and driving improvements that benefit both customers and team members.

Although Alex once simply hoped to find a job he enjoyed, his career has evolved in ways he never initially envisioned, including stepping into leadership roles that allow him to mentor others and influence organizational success.

His advice to current USI students is both practical and inspiring: seek a career that brings you happiness, treat others with respect, and remain open to learning. He encourages students to take full advantage of opportunities like internships and co-ops, and to continue growing by utilizing the resources around them.
